What does the Bible say about the things of this world compared to eternal things?
Scripture teaches that the things of this world pass away like a blade of grass that springs up in the morning and is cut down in the afternoon. By contrast, the things that are eternal will last forever and ever. Worldly fame, beauty, and pleasures are temporary and ultimately fade.
Les explains that the things of this world pass just like a blade of grass that comes up in the morning and is cut off in the afternoon. He points to famous people and entertainers who live high on the hog, but only for a few years; the flush of beauty wears off, they are cast away, no longer important, and many end up committing suicide or entering alcohol treatment. By contrast, the things that are eternal are going to last forever and ever. Les then goes back to Genesis, where Eve is the first to face the areas of temptation common to all men: the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. These three areas every human being must face, not just once, but almost every day. Eve was the first, as Satan approached her and tempted her in Genesis chapter 3, verse 6.
