How was the pitch on Noah's ark like the blood of Christ?

The pitch sealing Noah's ark foreshadows the blood of Christ: the same Hebrew word for pitch also means atonement. Just as pitch sealed the ark against the flood waters, Christ's blood seals out judgment so it cannot touch believers, securing them through faith.

Les teaches that God instructed Noah to seal the ark with pitch, a tar. The same Hebrew word translated "pitch" is also the Hebrew word for "atonement." The pitch between the boards had a sealing effect, an atoning effect. Just as the pitch sealed out the waters of the flood, the blood of Christ seals out judgment so it can never touch us. This pattern runs through Scripture: believers are secure not because of anything they do or deserve, but simply because they have placed their faith in the blood of Christ. Les adds that it does not stop there—we also place our faith in His resurrection, that He rose from the dead.
