What does it mean that if any man loves God he is known of Him?
It means that when a person loves the Lord who first loved us, God knows that person personally and intimately, not merely as one among millions. He knows them on a first-name basis, knows all about them, and knows their needs even before they ask.
Les teaches that this statement is about relationship, not mere intellectual knowledge. The one who loves God is the person who loves the Lord who first loved us. God then knows that believer on a first-name basis, not as an anonymous number among millions. He knows all about us, and He knows our needs even before we ask. This follows the warning that if anyone thinks he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know; we cannot exhaust the unfathomable things of God. So being known of Him means God personally knows and cares for those who love Him.
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
