Is avoiding sexual temptation the only reason to get married?

No. Scripture presents marriage as honorable and the marriage bed undefiled, but avoiding sexual temptation is not the sole reason to marry. Paul says each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband to avoid fornication, yet that redeeming effect is not the only purpose for marriage.

Les teaches from I Corinthians chapter 7 that Paul says it is good for a man not to get involved, referring to the sexual instincts, not to touch a woman, but to avoid fornication or falling into immoral activity. Paul says, "Let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband." Les then asks whether that is the sole reason for getting married, that one is not tempted to go out and be promiscuous. He answers, "Of course not," but notes it does have that redeeming effect: if a man has his wife and she has him, they are not tempted then to go out into the world and be promiscuous with those they have no business being with. Les reminds us that in Corinth every night a thousand prostitutes were plying the streets, and for a young man it was a constant temptation, so Paul says rather than be tempted with that, have your own wife. Marriage is honorable in all, and the marriage bed is undefiled, while whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

1 Corinthians 7:2

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
