How careful should believers be about their faithfulness to Christ?

Believers are to be just as careful about their fidelity to Christ as a husband or wife should be to each other, because they are in union with Him. Committing sexual immorality adulterates that union, so a believer has no business involving himself in extramarital relationships.

Les teaches that because the believer is now in union with Christ, fidelity to Him must mirror the fidelity a husband and wife owe each other. Paul stresses that the believer’s body is not for fornication; every other sin is outside the body, but sexual immorality sins against one’s own body. The Corinthians’ past immoral lifestyle is no longer acceptable, for as a child of God the believer is on totally different territory and is a different person. Involving oneself in immoral activity literally adulterates one’s position with Christ. Therefore believers have no business involving themselves in extramarital relationships, because the family and marriage relationship is holy, sanctified, and ordained by God.
