What were the Israelites in Egypt told to do with the sacrificial lamb's blood, and what would happen at midnight?

The Israelites in Egypt were told to kill the sacrificial lamb and place its blood on the two doorposts and the lintel of their houses. At the stroke of midnight, the death angel would go over Egypt and kill every firstborn male.

Les explains that these Jews had been slaves in Egypt and were told that if they killed the sacrificial lamb and placed the blood on the two doorposts and the lintel, then at the stroke of midnight the death angel would go over Egypt and kill every firstborn male. As Israel huddled in their small huts, those with the blood on the door had nothing to fear; by faith they were secure and covered. Les connects this to the church age: Christ is our Passover, and when we come under His shed blood, we are passed over from judgment.

Exodus 12:7

And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

Exodus 12:12

For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
