Where did Solomon build the temple, and what was its purpose?

Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem as the dwelling place of God. When it was completed and dedicated, God's presence in the Shekinah glory descended into it, and He dwelt there. The temple foreshadowed this age of grace, in which believers become temples of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Les explains that Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem as the dwelling place of God. When the temple was finished and dedicated, the presence of God in the Shekinah glory came right down into that temple, and God's presence dwelt in that dwelling place. Les says this was a fore view of the age of grace: when God saves an individual, that person immediately becomes a temple, a dwelling place, and just as the Shekinah glory came into Solomon's temple in Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit comes into the believer. He also points to Ephesians 1 and asks, 'Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?'
