How can you know God is dwelling in you if you don't feel Him?
Assurance rests on faith in what Scripture says, not on feeling God move in or move around within you. The Book declares that God Himself dwells in the believer's body, and He is there because the Book says He is. Even the carnal Corinthians were called temples of the living God.
Les explains that this is a completely new doctrine in Scripture. It is not found in the Old Testament, and Jesus does not teach it, Peter does not teach it; only Paul does. The doctrine is that God Himself is dwelling in this body. Because a believer may not have felt Him move in or feel Him moving around inside, this indwelling has to be taken by faith. The assurance is not based on feeling but on the fact that He is there because the Book says He is. Les points out that even the carnal Corinthians—believers still on the milk bottle and not able to eat strong meat—were temples of the living God.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
