If salvation is already secure, what should a Christian do with their life?

Because salvation is secure, a Christian should not become lazy but should work to further God's work among humanity and to gain reward. This labor should be motivated by God's glory, not ego, producing gold, silver, and precious stones rather than wood, hay, and stubble.

Les explains that although salvation is secure, believers are not to sit down and get lazy. Instead, they are to work to further God's work among the human race and to gain reward. He points to 1 Corinthians 3:15, where works are tested: gold, silver, and precious stones represent things rightly motivated for God to receive the glory, not for self; wood, hay, and stubble represent things that enhance the ego. God looks at motivation—why we do what we do—and asks whether it is pleasing in His eyes and brings glory to Him. Les illustrates the Christian life as paddling a canoe up a roaring river: it is never easy but a constant battle against Satan and the world's designs, yet God has promised believers can do it.
