Les Feldick Bible Study

Do you have to be a spiritual giant for God to use you?

No. God uses every believer regardless of spiritual maturity. Even carnal babes in Christ can labor with the Eternal Sovereign God. You do not have to be a great spiritual giant for God to accomplish His work through you; He wants to use every last one, whether weak or more spiritual.

Les explains that Paul writes to the Corinthians so they will not become discouraged. Yes, they are carnal and still babes in Christ, but they are laboring with the Eternal Sovereign God. Les emphasizes that you do not have to be the great spiritual giant that some theologians seem to be in our eyes in order to do the work God has for us. God wants to use every last one of us, whether we are weak and a babe, maybe a little carnal, or further up the ladder and more spiritual than average. He says we are laborers together; we are God's husbandry and God's building. The possessive term is with God, for He owns everything, including every one of us, by virtue of the redemption price of His shed blood. It is the preaching of the cross that gets people into this position, and nothing else will do. As believers in the finished work of the cross, God is our partner and overseer over everything we say, think, and do. We are His workmanship, His husbandry, and His building.

1 Corinthians 3:9

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

More Questions

Does it make a difference whether a carnal Christian or a spiritual giant does God's work?

As workers, every believer — whether carnal like the Corinthians or a spiritual giant like some great men of God — serves the same function, so that distinction makes no difference in the work.

Does it matter how spiritually mature you are as a worker for God?

As workers, it makes no difference whether a believer is carnal like the Corinthians or a spiritual giant like other great men of God, because every believer is working for the same purpose.
