Was there a seminary in Alexandria?

Yes. Alexandria, Egypt, had a seminary of sorts. It was the place where Jewish scholars produced the Septuagint about 300 years before Christ, translating the Hebrew Old Testament into Greek. Apollos, an eloquent Jew, came from that same intellectual Hebrew environment.

Les teaches that Alexandria in Egypt had a seminary of sorts. That is where the Septuagint originated, when Jewish scholars came together about 300 years before Christ and translated the Hebrew Old Testament into Greek. Les thinks it was a valid translation because Jesus quoted from the Septuagint over and over, and He would not have done so if it were a forgery. Apollos came out of that same area of intellectual Hebrews and Jews; he was an eloquent man with the gift of oratory, able to spellbind people with his speech.

Acts 18:24

And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
