Where is Alexandria?
Alexandria is located in Egypt. Scripture identifies Apollos as a certain Jew born in Alexandria, which the context places down in Egypt. He was an eloquent man, mighty in the scriptures, and he came to Ephesus. This places Alexandria geographically in Egypt.
Les explains that Alexandria is down in Egypt. He points back to Acts chapter 18, verse 24, where a certain Jew named Apollos was born in Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the scriptures, and came to Ephesus. In the Corinthian divisions, some said they were of Apollos, so Les takes the reader back to Acts 18 to see what kind of man these people were clinging to, warning that it is dangerous to get hung up on one man because it is not scriptural.
And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
