Why couldn't the Corinthian church accomplish anything?
The Corinthian church couldn't accomplish anything because it was divided by factions—some following Paul, some Apollos, some Peter, some Jesus—and lacked unity. Their constant bickering centered on individual men rather than on the Word of God and the crucified One.
Les explains that four groups existed in the church: those who followed Paul, those who followed Apollos, those who followed Peter, and those who followed Jesus Himself. This division wreaked havoc because there was no unity. They couldn't get anything done because of constant bickering, and that bickering was centered on an individual man. Les then asks how many churches today are caught up in the same problem, and he urges believers not to set their eyes on the man but to set their eyes on the Word of God and on the crucified One, who died and rose from the dead.
