What is the first law of man's dealing with a holy God?
Disobeying God's revealed will is sin, and sin brings death—spiritual death as well as physical death. The soul that sins will die, with no exceptions. This principle is the very first law governing man's dealings with a holy God.
Les explains that this is the very first law of man's dealing with the Holy God. In the earlier passage, Eve is confronted by the serpent. She recounts that God had said not to eat of the fruit of the tree in the midst of the garden, nor to touch it, lest they die. Les says that if a person disobeys the revealed will of God, it is sin, and the result is death: a spiritual death as well as physical. He then takes the reader to Ezekiel 18:4, where God says all souls are His, and the soul that sins—disobeys God—will die, with no ifs, ands, or buts about it.
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
