Why did Paul not use his Old Testament knowledge when preaching in Corinth?

At Corinth, a wild and wicked Gentile city, God did not permit Paul to use his Jewish background or rehearse his Old Testament knowledge. Instead, Paul preached one simple message: the gospel that Christ died for the sins of the world.

Les explains that Paul certainly could have rehearsed all his Old Testament knowledge, but at Corinth—a wild, wicked, Gentile city—God did not even permit him to use his Jewish background. So Paul came with only one message, the gospel that Christ died for the sins of the world, for me and for you. Les notes this plain, simple gospel is seldom heard today; it is circumvented. He illustrates with a funeral where an eloquent preacher came to the threshold of salvation but dropped the ball, failing to preach Christ crucified, and says that happens all too often.
