Who are 'the called' in 1 Corinthians 1:24?

Scripture identifies 'the called' as the elect, the saints, and the believers - all one and the same. They include both Jew and Greek, and to them Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. The called are those who believe the preaching of Christ crucified.

Les explains that in 1 Corinthians 1:24 the called of Scripture are the elect, the saints, and the believers; he treats them as one and the same. This calling is not limited to Jews, since the Corinthian church included both Jews and Greeks. To these called ones, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. Les also notes that Paul's foundational message is preaching Christ crucified, and he agrees with the commentator who said 1 Corinthians emphasizes God's wisdom set apart from the wisdom of men. Only God's wisdom makes a person something God can use.

1 Corinthians 1:24

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
