Who are the called in Scripture?

Scripture identifies the called as the elect, the saints, and the believers—all one and the same. The called include both Jew and Greek, and for them Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This calling rests on God's wisdom, not man's wisdom.

Les explains that the called of Scripture are the elect, the saints, and the believers, which he considers one and the same. They are believers whether Jew or Greek, and for them Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. Les notes that the main theme of 1 Corinthians is wisdom—the wisdom of God set apart from the wisdom of men. Earthly wisdom does not make a person usable to God; only the wisdom from God does. In man's eyes, God's way seems foolish because He can save a person from the most utter, gutter type existence and make him a saint.

1 Corinthians 1:24

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
