What are we called into according to 1 Corinthians 1:9?

Scripture teaches that believers are called into the fellowship of God's Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. This calling rests on God's faithfulness, not our own, and it is the same for us today as for the Corinthians. God will never forsake those He calls.

Les explains that verse 9 emphasizes God's faithfulness, not our own. The Corinthians were not faithful, and neither are we, but God is. He illustrates this with the Abrahamic covenant in Genesis 12, which Israel broke repeatedly, yet God never annulled it because a covenant originates and ends with God. Likewise, when God calls a person His own and they are saved, becoming part of the elect, He will never give up on them. We may fail miserably, but God is faithful, never forsaking or leaving us. The calling is into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, and this is the same for us today as it was for the Corinthians. If we have entered a genuine salvation experience, we are His and He is ours.

1 Corinthians 1:9
