Where did Paul get the gospel he preached—from men or from Jesus Christ?
Paul did not receive the gospel he preached from men, nor was he taught it by men; it came by the revelation of Jesus Christ. He conferred not with flesh and blood—the twelve—but went into Arabia, and later went up to Jerusalem by revelation, with the Lord Jesus instructing him.
Les explains that Paul certifies the brethren that the gospel he preached did not originate with man and was not after man. Paul neither received it of man nor was taught it, but it came by the revelation of Jesus Christ. God's purpose in bringing Paul into the world was to reveal His Son in him so he might preach Him among the heathen, or Gentiles. When that happened, Paul immediately conferred not with flesh and blood—the twelve—and did not go up to Jerusalem to those who were before him, but went into Arabia, which Galatians 4 identifies as Sinai. Les points out that God revealed the doctrines of grace at the same mountain where He revealed the law to Moses. Later, Galatians 2:1–2 says that after fourteen years Paul went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas and Titus, and he went up by revelation. Les says Christ led him; the Lord Jesus Himself instructed the apostle to go to that meeting with the twelve and the Jerusalem leaders.
But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
