What happens when love is operating in a believer's life?
When love is the dominant force in a believer’s life, it fulfills the Law. The believer does not commit adultery, kill, bear false witness, or covet. Every other commandment is summed up in loving your neighbor as yourself. Love operating in the believer produces obedience to God’s commandments under Grace.
Les explains that since the believer is under Grace and not under Law, love is the dominant force now in the life of the believer. He points out that love is the fulfilling of the Law, so when love is operating, the believer does not commit adultery, does not kill, does not bear false witness, and does not covet. If there is any other commandment, it is summed up in “love your neighbor as yourself.” Les notes these statements come from the Ten Commandments, the Law. He also observes that even though Paul repeats nine of those Ten Commandments, the one he does not repeat is the Sabbath.
For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
