What can a person actually do to save himself?
A person can do nothing to save himself. He must stand still before a Holy God, confessing he cannot move or rescue himself, and wait for God to move in. God alone performs the miracle of salvation, creating a new mind, will, and emotion and putting Old Adam to death.
Les teaches that salvation is not something a sinner contributes to; it is God's miraculous work. He says all we can do is stand stark naked before a Holy God and admit we cannot even move from where we are. Like Israel at the Red Sea, we are told to stand still, not scavenge driftwood, build a bridge, or find something that will float us across. The unbeliever can do nothing until God moves in, performs the miracle of salvation, transfigures the hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint, creates a new mind, will, and emotion, and puts Old Adam to death.
