What did God do for Israel, and how did Israel respond to their Messiah?

God gave Israel the promises to the patriarchs and through the prophets, and dealt with them on covenant ground through the coming of their Messiah. Israel responded by crucifying the one God gave them, crying out in total rebellion, “Away with Him.” Through their fall, salvation came to the Gentiles.

Les explains from Romans 11 that Israel was a covenant people. God gave them all the promises He gave to the patriarchs and through the prophets, and He even dealt with them on covenant ground through the coming of their Messiah. Yet Israel crucified the one He gave them and cried out in total rebellion, “Away with Him.” Because they did that, God said He would now send salvation to the Gentiles. Les emphasizes that no one but God would have ever thought of anything like that, but this is what God did.

Romans 11:33

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
