Did Jesus forget about Israel when He returned to heaven?

No, He did not forget Israel when He returned to heaven. After His resurrection He went back to glory, but He promised to come back. He told the Twelve on the Mount of Olives He was going to heaven but would return, and the angel announced it.

Les explains that throughout Israel's experience God repeatedly promised them a king and a kingdom. He came the first time, they rejected and crucified Him, and in resurrection power He went back to glory. But this did not mean He forgot Israel. Les compares it to MacArthur leaving the Philippines and saying, "I will come back," which is what Jesus told the Twelve on the Mount of Olives: He was going back to heaven but said, "I'm coming back." The angel also announced it. So Israel is now approaching the day when their Messiah will return. Les then points to Hosea 6:1 as a promise to the nation, where God says He has torn but will heal, He has smitten but will bind up—discipline followed by restoration.
