What did God do with the Gentile system after setting Israel aside?
God broke Israel off from the fatness of the root of Abraham and, by His grace, put the whole Gentile system into the place Israel had enjoyed in the Old Testament. Gentile dumb now rests on Abraham's root, feasting on the promises and receiving the Gospel with equal opportunity for salvation and relationship with God.
Les explains that God could not do it two times at once, so He had to set Israel aside, broke them off from the fatness of the root of Abraham, and put in Gentile dumb as a group of people. The whole Gentile system has now been by the grace of God put into the place that Israel enjoyed in that Old Testament. Les clarifies that this does not mean all Israelites were believers; most were renegades in unbelief, yet they were on the root of Abraham. Now Gentile dumb is in the same situation, resting on the root of Abraham. That does not make them Jews; they are merely feasting off what God had promised Abraham. As the Gentile system feasts on all the blessings of the Father of Israel, the Gospel has been going to the Gentile, who has had just as much opportunity at salvation and a relationship with God as Israel did.
