How could a holy God use the awful Roman cross to bring about the gospel for the Gentiles?

Through Israel’s rejection of her King and Messiah, God turned to the Gentiles with a program of grace. Beyond human comprehension, the Holy, Righteous God of Glory used the awful Roman cross to bring about a Gospel sent free to Gentiles—no work, religion, ritual, or priesthood required, only belief.

Les explains that because the nation of Israel rejected her King, Messiah, and Redeemer, God in turn went to the Gentiles with this program of grace unheard of. He says it is beyond human comprehension that the Holy, Righteous God of Glory could use something as graphic and awful as the Roman cross to bring about a Gospel He could send to the Gentiles free for nothing. This Gospel required no work, religion, ritual, or priesthood; it merely had to be believed. Les notes that this simplicity is what most people cannot comprehend, but it is the way God intended it, so that no one, Jew or Gentile, can ever say they could not measure up or attain it. It is out there for everyone and anyone because Israel fell.
