Why is it hard to comprehend that God used the Roman cross for the Gospel?
It is hard because it is beyond human comprehension that the Holy, Righteous God of Glory would use something as graphic and awful as the Roman cross to bring a Gospel sent to Gentiles free, without work, religion, ritual, or priesthood—so simple it must merely be believed.
Les explains that because Israel rejected her King, Messiah, and Redeemer, God turned to the Gentiles with a program of grace unheard of. Beyond human comprehension, the Holy, Righteous God of Glory used the graphic and awful Roman cross to bring about a Gospel sent to the Gentiles free for nothing—without work, religion, ritual, or priesthood. It was a Gospel that merely had to be believed. Most people cannot comprehend it because it is too simple, but God intended it that way so that no one, Jew or Gentile, could ever say they could not measure up, reach it, or attain it. It is out there for everyone and anyone because Israel fell.
I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
