Why is it hard to understand how God's sovereignty and human free will work together?
It is hard because God set humanity in motion and gave men and nations free will, yet everything they do unfolds according to His plan and foreknowledge. Human reason struggles to reconcile genuinely free human actions with a sovereign, omniscient God who is absolutely in control of everything.
Les explains that this has been one of the hardest things to put together in his 25 years of teaching; he says he cannot do it and no longer tries. The difficulty is that God set the whole system of humanity in motion in Genesis and gave men and nations their free will, yet everything they do is according to His plan and brings everything to the end He planned, all according to His foreknowledge. Les concludes that while it is hard to comprehend, God is able, sovereign, omniscient, and absolutely in control of everything.
