How can God be in control of everything but still give humans free will?
God's sovereignty and human free will coexist because before creation the Godhead foreknew every choice every person and nation would make. That foreknowledge allowed God to plan for every contingency while never overriding human will. People remain free to accept or reject Him, and their decisions never surprise God or disrupt His control.
Les teaches that this is one aspect that is hard to comprehend: God in His sovereignty is in control of everything, yet He never takes away the free will of men and nations. The way he explains it is that before He created anything, the Godhead could look down through the eons of time and knew exactly what every person in every nation would do. That is called foreknowledge. With foreknowledge, God could also plan for any contingency because He knew what was going to happen, yet He never took away the free will of mankind. Israel, for example, had absolute freedom to accept Him and have the kingdom, but they also had the free will to reject it. Their rejection did not throw God a curve, because He knew what they were going to do.
