Why can't Israel alone be called the Christ killers?

Israel alone cannot be called the Christ killers because the religious leaders of Israel did not act by themselves. They demanded His death, but Rome carried out the crucifixion. Scripture says the rulers of Israel and the kings of the earth consorted together against the Messiah, so Jew and Gentile together crucified Him.

Les explains that the religious leaders of Israel and Rome consorted together, so Israel did not act alone. Israel asked for and demanded Christ’s death, but Rome actually carried it out. That is why Israel alone cannot be called the Christ killers. Les points to Psalms 2, where the rulers of Israel and the kings of this earth consort together to put the Messiah to death. Jew and Gentile together consorted and crucified Him. Yet God was not caught by surprise; it was all in His foreknowledge. Jesus Himself told the twelve detail by detail before going up to Jerusalem that He would be scourged, beaten, put to death, and raised on the third day. He knew this from eternity past.
