What did the Gentiles come out of when they entered God's grace?
The Gentiles came out of bleak, dark, godless idolatry and paganism and stepped into the glorious light of God's grace. They had not followed after righteousness, yet they attained it because they had faith, not by the law, something Israel could not comprehend.
Les teaches that the Gentiles came out of their bleak, dark, godless idolatry and paganism and stepped into the glorious light of God's grace, something Israel could never understand. Paul reminds them that these Gentiles, who had not been following after righteousness, attained it because they had faith. That is what the Jew even today cannot comprehend. Les stresses two absolutes: without the shedding of blood there is no remission, and without faith it is impossible to please Him. Israel's problem was that they could not believe what God said; they followed after the law of righteousness but did not attain it because they sought it not by faith. But when the Gentiles heard Paul preaching, they could believe it, while Israel shook their head. Les notes we are not that much different today.
