What did God promise David about the Messiah and the royal line?

God promised David that through him would come a royal line of kings, and out of that line would come the final King, the Messiah of Israel, Jesus of Nazareth. This was the Davidic covenant, and it assured that the promised Messiah would arise from David's descendants.

Les teaches that the promise to David is part of the unfolding promise concerning Christ in the flesh. In the previous program, he dealt with the Davidic covenant: God promised David that through him would come this royal line of kings, out of which would come the final king, the Messiah of Israel, Jesus of Nazareth. Les connects this with the first promise concerning Christ in the flesh, where the seed of the woman is Christ. That seed would bruise the serpent's head at the cross, while the serpent would bruise His heel through the suffering of the cross. Matthew chapter 1 is another reference to this same fulfillment of the coming of the seed of the woman, which is Christ.
