What is the nature of the Israeli government in Jerusalem?

The government in Jerusalem is secular, not godly or righteous. Its leaders are ordinary human beings doing what they think right for their circumstances, and they are under the control of the God of this world, just as Washington, D.C., is. They should not be expected to be more righteous than any other government.

Les explains that the government in Jerusalem is not to be viewed as godly or especially righteous. It is secular, made up of ordinary human beings doing what they think is right for their circumstances. He says it is just as much under the control of the God of this world as Washington, D.C. So no one should expect that nothing evil would come from the Knesset in Jerusalem. Yet this does not cancel Israel's covenant status: they are still God's covenant people, presently set aside and spiritually blinded as a nation, but God is not through with them and will one day resume His dealings with them.
