Is the Israeli government secular?
The government in Jerusalem is secular, not godly or righteous. It consists of ordinary human beings doing what they think is right, and it is under the control of the God of this world just like Washington D.C. However, they remain God's covenant people, currently set aside and spiritually blinded.
Les explains that the government in Jerusalem is not to be expected to be godly or any more righteous than any other government. They are secular, ordinary human beings doing what they think is right, and they are just as much under the control of the God of this world as Washington D.C. is. Many people think that if Israel is what the Bible says, nothing evil should come out of the Knesset in Jerusalem, but Les says not to expect that. They are just as much under the God of this world as any other nation. The exception is that they are still God's covenant people, and right now they have been set aside. They are spiritually blinded for the most part as a nation, but God is not through with them. He will yet pick up where He left off. This is the final covenant God gives to the nation of Israel, and it is as yet future. It is not appropriate to put Israel under this covenant promise tonight, but they will one day enjoy it.
