Is Israel's government under the control of the God of this world like Washington D.C.?

Yes. The government in Jerusalem is secular and just as much under the control of the God of this world as Washington D.C. is. It should not be expected to be godly or righteous. Yet Israel remains God's covenant people, currently set aside and spiritually blinded, but God is not through with them.

Les explains that the little nation of Israel in the east is still the nation that will one day be the apple of God's eye, but not tonight because they are in unbelief. He constantly reminds his class not to expect the government in Jerusalem to be godly or any more righteous than any other government. They are secular, ordinary human beings doing what they think is right for their circumstance, and they are just as much under the control of the God of this world as Washington D.C. is. People may think nothing evil should come out of the Knesset in Jerusalem, but that expectation is wrong. Israel is under the God of this world tonight just as any other nation on earth, but there is an exception: they are still God's covenant people, right now set aside and spiritually blinded for the most part as a nation, but God is not through with them. He will yet pick up where He left off and fulfill His covenant promises, as Jeremiah 31 will show; that final covenant is yet future and not appropriate to put Israel under tonight, but they will one day enjoy it. Les also notes that God's mercy shall not depart from Him.
