How did Joseph end up in Egypt?

Joseph ended up in Egypt because his ungodly brothers sold him into slavery. Yet the account also shows God sovereignly set it up, sending seven good years before seven years of famine, so that famine would bring Jacob's whole tribe down into Egypt. Joseph told his brothers not to blame themselves because God did it.

Les explains that Jacob had gone up to Haran, married his wives, and returned with eleven sons; after Rachel had Benjamin, the number became twelve. Joseph, however, ended up down in Egypt by virtue of his ungodly brothers selling him into slavery. When Joseph later met his brothers, he told them not to blame themselves, because God did it. Les connects this to Romans chapter 9, where God's dealing is sovereign, holy, and righteous, and no one should question what He does. The sovereign God set it up so Joseph would end up in Egypt. He sent seven good years to prepare for seven years of famine, and that whole famine was set up to bring the whole tribe of Jacob down into Egypt. Les notes a change: God had earlier told Isaac not to go down into Egypt but to sojourn in the land of promise, yet now He speaks to Jacob. In Genesis 46:1, Israel took his journey with all that he had, came to Beersheba in southern Palestine, in the Negev, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, saying, 'Jacob, Jacob,' and Jacob answered, 'Here I am.' Then God said, 'I am God, the God of thy father, fear not to go down into Egypt.' Les points out that this was a change from what God had been telling Abraham.
