Who came next after Abraham in the line of the covenant promise?

After Abraham received the covenant promise, the next person in the line of that promise was Isaac. Following Isaac was Jacob, and from Jacob came the twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel. This shows the covenant promise passed from Abraham to Isaac, then to Jacob.

Les explains that after Abraham received the covenant promise that out of him would come a nation of people, the next person in response to that covenant promise was Isaac. The next one in response to that covenant was Jacob. Then out of Jacob came the twelve sons, one of whom was Joseph. Because of Joseph and the grain, those twelve sons ended up down in Egypt. While they and their families were in Egypt, they exploded in population, and those twelve sons became the twelve tribes of Israel, which Moses led out through the wilderness and Joshua led into the land. That is the nation of Israel.
