Who came after Abraham in the covenant promise that would make a nation?

After Abraham received the covenant promise that a nation would come from him, the next person in that covenant line was Isaac. Jacob came after Isaac, and from Jacob came the twelve sons who became the twelve tribes of Israel.

Les explains that after Abraham received the covenant promise that out of him would come a nation of people, the next person in response to that covenant promise was Isaac. The next one in response to that covenant was Jacob, and out of Jacob came the twelve sons, one of whom was Joseph. Because of Joseph, those twelve sons ended up down in Egypt because of the grain. While those twelve sons and their families were in Egypt, they exploded in population and became the twelve tribes of Israel. Moses led them out through the wilderness, and Joshua led them into the land. That is the nation of Israel.
