What is the line of descent from Abraham's covenant promise down to the 12 sons of Israel?
After Abraham received the covenant promise that a nation would come from him, the line continued through Isaac, then Jacob, and then Jacob’s twelve sons. One of those sons was Joseph, and through him the twelve sons went down to Egypt, where their families multiplied and became the twelve tribes of Israel.
Les explains that many people have not been taught these basic fundamentals. After Abraham received the covenant promise that a nation of people would come out of him, the next person in response to that covenant promise was Isaac; the next was Jacob; and out of Jacob came the twelve sons, one of whom was Joseph. Because of Joseph, those twelve sons ended up down in Egypt because of the grain. While the twelve sons and their families were in Egypt, they exploded in population. Those twelve sons then became the twelve tribes of Israel, whom Moses led out, took through the wilderness experience, and Joshua led into the land.
