Who was the Abrahamic covenant given to and what kind of people would come from him?

The Abrahamic covenant was given to Abram of Ur of the Chaldees, a Syrian rather than a Jew. From him God sovereignly instituted a new race or nation never before on earth, known as Israel; the Jews came through this covenant, which promised a great nation and blessing to all families.

Les explains that God made a special covenant with Abram out of Ur of the Chaldees, and Abram was a Syrian, not a Jew, because the Jews were still unknown at that time. In Genesis 12:1–3, God told Abram to leave his country, kindred, and father's house for a land God would show him; God promised to make of him a great nation, bless him, make his name great, bless those who bless him, curse those who curse him, and bless all families of the earth through his lineage. Les teaches that this Abrahamic covenant was given to the man who would become father of a race of people never before on earth; God sovereignly instituted a new race or nation known as Israel, and the Jews came as a result. The covenant promised a nation of people, implying they would need their own geographical homeland.
