What does 'any' include in John 10:28?

In John 10:28, 'any' is not restricted to mankind, since the word 'man' was added by translators. It includes the whole sphere of creation—angelic powers, satanic powers, and every other created thing—so nothing can pluck believers out of Christ's hand. Paul's parallel in Romans 8 likewise encompasses all creation.

Les explains that in John 10:27 Jesus is dealing especially with the nation of Israel, which is why He uses the term 'sheep.' In verse 28, Jesus says He gives them eternal life, they shall never perish, and neither shall any pluck them out of His hand. Les notes that the word 'man' was added by the translator, so he prefers to leave it out. He then compares the word 'any' with what Paul says in Romans 8, concluding that it includes the whole sphere of creation—not just man, but also the angelic powers and satanic powers. Nothing can pluck them out of His hand. Les applies this by asking if you can believe that God in Christ died and rose again for your salvation, then you should be able to believe these things, that you are His.

Romans 8:38
