What does the word 'any' include in John 10:28 when compared with Romans 8?

The word “any” is not limited to mankind. Compared with Romans 8, it includes the whole sphere of creation—not only human beings but also angelic powers and satanic powers. Nothing within that entire sphere can pluck Christ’s sheep out of His hand.

Les explains that in John 10:28 the word “man” was added by the translators, so he prefers to leave it out, making “any” broader. He directs us to compare “any” with what Paul says in Romans 8, where the scope includes the whole sphere of creation—not just man, but also the angelic powers and satanic powers. Nothing can pluck them out of His hand. The surrounding verses identify His sheep as those who hear His voice, are known by Him, and follow Him; He gives them eternal life, and they shall never perish. Les applies this by saying that if you can believe God in Christ died and rose again for your salvation, you should be able to believe these things, that you are His.

John 10:28

Romans 8:38

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
