They are wrong because when persecution ran rampant, it took ten times more men to stand up for the slaughter, to be burned at the stake, and to be put on the rack. That kind of endurance takes a man, and many so-called machos could never hold a candle to it. Christianity demands real courage.
Les explains that many macho people and hunks today think Christianity is for women and children, but they have it all wrong. Back in the days when persecution was running rampant, it took ten times more men to stand up for the slaughter, to be burned at the stake, and to be put on the rack, where their bones were literally broken without killing them. That is when it takes a man, and many so-called machos would never be able to hold a candle to it. Paul says this is all part and parcel of what God has imparted to us, the promise that even though we may have to go through these things, it will never separate us from the love of Christ. This life is at most maybe 95 or 100 years, or a few over, compared to never-ending eternity, yet the human race will not consider that and only looks at what it can enjoy in the here and now.
