How has the position and attitude of men toward women changed in Christianity?

There has been a tremendous change in the position and attitude of men toward women in Christianity. This change is due to shifting customs and environment, not to any alteration in the Word of God. Many mandates given to Israel were based on national customs, and similar cultural factors affect how we apply passages about women in the Church.

Les teaches that the position and attitude of men toward women in Christianity has changed tremendously. He groups this topic with meat offered to idols as something far removed from modern America. Les explains that while the Word of God does not change, customs and environment do. He points out that many things God mandated for Israel were because of their national customs. Therefore, he approaches the coming verses about women's covering in the Church with a grain of salt, not rejecting them as Scripture but recognizing cultural change. He also notes that Paul himself was not anti-woman.
