Are we elected and chosen before we ever had anything to do about it?
According to the predetermined counsel of the triune God, we are elected and chosen before we ever had anything to do about it, placed in that position before creation. Yet the invitation remains: whosoever will may come. This is the predetermined position established by the triune God's counsel before anything was created.
Les explains that in eternity past, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit came together and by a determinate agreeing of their three minds decided to create the universe and put the human race on planet earth. They knew in foreknowledge that the human race would fall in Adam, and in that predeterminate counsel one person of the triune God would have to be a Redeemer. This predetermined counsel of Acts chapter 2 brought the whole thing moving. Then as a small part of that big picture, here we come. According to that same triune counsel, God put the finger on every one of us and said, 'I have a place waiting for you.' So we are in that predetermined position put there by the counsel of the triune God before anything was ever created. Les then notes the big argument: 'Are we elected? Are we chosen before we ever had anything to do about it?' The opposite party says it was all our own free will, we decided to choose salvation. But Les responds, 'Well now wait a minute. Yes, whosoever will sits over here.' Thus, the answer is yes, we are elected and chosen before we had anything to do about it, yet the invitation to whosoever will remains.
