Why can a cottontail rabbit never relax?
Because it lives under the curse in constant fear of becoming another creature's meal. Dogs, owls, hawks, foxes, and coyotes would grab it, so the cottontail cannot relax, always aware that many predators would love to catch it for lunch.
Les explains that under the curse, the animal and bird kingdoms must live in constant fear of being somebody else's lunch. He uses the cottontail rabbit as an everyday example, since almost everyone has seen them in city parks or on lawns. The cottontail never relaxes because the neighbor's dog would have him, an owl would grab it, hawks would grab him, foxes would get him, coyotes, and all these other creatures would love to grab that little cottontail for their lunch. The rabbit knows it, so he never can relax. But someday he will, someday he won't have to worry about that, when the curse is lifted and Christ returns.
