How is Adam like a whiskey still?

Adam is like a whiskey still because the still is the producer, not the thing that directly bends minds. What the still produces is what causes drunkenness. Likewise, Adam produces sins—plural—the results of the old Adamic nature, not the still itself.

Les explains that the old whiskey still is an illustration: the still is one thing, but what it produces is what bends people's minds. The still itself doesn't cause people to get drunk or have their minds bent; it is the producer. In the same way, old Adam is just like that old still: he produces sins, plural. The word sin (singular) deals with the old Adamic nature, but when it is plural, it refers to the results of that Adamic nature. Paul says that even when we were dead in the activity prompted by old Adam, God quickened us and made us alive together with Christ by grace, not by works.
