What was the Law of Sin and Death doing?

The Law of Sin and Death was operating every day as an established fundamental absolute—a fact of life, just like the Law of Gravity. It is the very fact of everyday life from which the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made the believer free.

Les teaches that in Romans 8:2, the "law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" has made me free from "the law of sin and death." He explains that the word "law" must always be understood according to context. Sometimes it refers to a simple fact of everyday living, like the Law of Gravity or the Law of Buoyancy—absolute principles no man can change. In this verse, the Law of Sin and Death is the same kind of established fundamental absolute, a fact of life that was operating every day. It was that daily reality from which the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus sets the believer free.

Romans 8:2

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
