How did God provide a loophole to the law that the soul that sinneth shall surely die?

God provided the loophole by dying in our place. The law demands that the soul that sinneth shall surely die, and all are sinners as sons of Adam, so death was required. Believers are reckoned as crucified with Christ and experience that same death in Him, which is called substitution.

Les teaches that God had to deal with the first law given to the human race. When He told Adam and Eve, 'The day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die,' and later put it slightly differently, 'The soul that sinneth shall surely die,' the law determined that every human being is a sinner because we are sons of Adam, so every human being had to die. Les calls God's solution a loophole. Just as smart lawyers can find a loophole when the law says such and such, God gave a tremendous loophole to that law of all laws. The loophole was that He died in our place. Yet believers still have to experience that same death He experienced in the person of Christ, and this is called substitution. Les then turns to Romans 6:6.
