What did God know would happen to the nation of Israel?
God knew Israel would be scattered among the nations, becoming a wandering people without a homeland, persecuted and driven from place to place. He also foreknew that after centuries of dispersion, He would turn their captivity, show compassion, and gather them back from every nation.
Les teaches that God knew the nation of Israel would become what is called the wandering Jew—without a homeland, persecuted, and driven from one place to the other. Yet God also gave the promise that if they returned to the LORD and obeyed His voice with all their heart and soul, He would turn their captivity, have compassion on them, and gather them from all the nations where He had scattered them. Les notes that many Jews lost sight of that promise, but not all. In our own generation, God's Word is proving true as He brings them back from every nation under heaven. He cites documentation that Jews in Israel had come from 133 different sovereign nations. They have been driven everywhere and are coming home all the time. Some nations have almost no Jews left; Albania reportedly has none, Syria only a few hundred, while Russia and America still have large numbers.
