Why does Les emphasize the Abrahamic covenant?
The Abrahamic covenant is emphasized because through Abraham and God’s covenant with him comes the Messiah, the Redeemer of all mankind. It is central to God’s plan for the ages, which is why Satan continually attacks the nation of Israel to thwart that plan.
Les explains that this covenant is hard to comprehend because it centers on one man, Abraham. Through this man and the covenant God made with him comes the Messiah, the Redeemer of all mankind. Because the Abrahamic covenant is so foundational to God’s plan for the ages, Satan constantly attacks the little nation of Israel; he must do anything in his power to thwart God’s plan and therefore has to start with Israel. Les also notes that Abraham understood the promise of a nation coming from his loins even though he had no son, and the context points to Eliezer and Lot as examples that would not fulfill the criteria.
